Anyone that knows me knows that my loyalty to my family is something that is forever and always non-negotiable. I would throw a punch, climb a mountain, cross an ocean, and carry their burdens as my own without flinching.

In 2012, our world was rocked.
Mom was diagnosed with kidney failure in April of 2012, and the stress of the looming transplant later in the fall right after my Grandma's 85th birthday sent my head and my heart into chaos.

Enter my nephew.
Less than 2 years old last summer and a complete and utter beacon of light every time I was in his presence. One particular visit home to Detroit was so emotionally taxing that the only way I could manage a deep breath was taking him to our little town's park. And there, on this empty playground, I stood in awe of this magnificent child that had somehow calmed my storm entirely. And then the realization that he's been doing just that since the day he was born.

On that day, on that playground, I started writing this song.
